​Being a new mum is a challenging time. I know, I've done it three times. Whether you've had a vaginal or caesarean birth, your body has run a marathon over the last few months, your hormones are going crazy, and your not getting much sleep. Yet life still goes on. The house still needs to function, you are hungry, your baby is hungry and you're needing some space to figure out what this new role even means.
​Unless you have a fairy godmother waiting to take care of you, planning for your post partum period is vital. With planning you can not only survive but THRIVE at this time. ​COUNSELLING
​With experience in providing meaningful counselling for families since 2007 Jo is proud to be offering counselling to the Hartfelt community. Many women experience distress during their birth experiences, or have difficulty adjusting to new motherhood. Postnatal anxiety and depression are common experiences for women in the first year or two after having a baby. Jo will come to you in your home, or another comfortable venue, hear your concerns and walk you through your healing journey.

BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT
​Most women want to breastfeeding their baby through and past infancy. Sadly, most women are not meeting their own breastfeeding goals, often leaving them feeling like a 'failure'. What leads to women meeting through breastfeeding goals is feeling supported by family, friends and professionals.

​My support of breastfeeding mothers comes from a place of head and heart.  My counselling background allows me to hear deeply your concerns, worries and fears. My experiences and my studies give me a good knowledge base to be able to identify where the difficulties in breastfeeding could be originating from, suggest strategies that may help, and offer reassurance. Having been through difficult breastfeeding journeys myself I know how much the heart can hurt when breastfeeding isn't going well. I can empathise.

​Support is also available around breastfeeding when returning to work, weaning and other circumstances.

TRADITIONAL BELLY BINDING
Traditional Belly binding is the art of tying a long piece of fabric around and around a woman's torso. This is different to a modern girdle in that it is longer and it will fit the woman uniquely every time it is tied on.

The benefits are many and varied:
* It pulls in the separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti)
* It helps to slim the ribs, hips and the belly
* It reduces post partum bleeding time
* It reduces and prevents back pain and helps to form good postural habits in the early days of nursing preventing "nursing slouch"
* It looks and feels great!

Belly binding is ideally begun on days 4-5 post partum and continued for 40 days, for at least a few hours everyday.. Beyond this, binding can used anytime a woman feels like she needs postural support.
This service is $230* and includes a handmade bind as well as two visits to your home to teach a family member or friend how to bind so it can be done everyday. Packages and special rates apply for doula clients.
Handmade Belly Binds are also available for sale for $60 for those who know how to bind already. (postage not included)

POSTPARTUM SEALING CEREMONY
​The act of conceiving, growing and birthing a baby is a massive and transformative task for a woman. After the birth, the new mothers body and soul deserves to be warmed, honoured and nurtured, thanked and blessed for the work it has completed and the work yet to come.
This private ceremony, performed in your home, is best done from a month after birth when bleeding has slowed, however it is never too late to enjoy this 'sealing' of your body and journey.
