about hartfelt services

Hi, I'm Jo Lockhart, the woman, the power and the passion behind Hartfelt Birth Services.

I supported my first birth back in 1996! When my first baby had been born in the March of that year I felt blown away by the intensity, power and beauty of birthing him. I trusted I could do it. Experiencing it though tapped me into something greater than I could ever have known. I became a part of the great lineage of women who since the dawn of time have been birthing their babies. So, when this friend needed support, I jumped at the chance. It was a totally different experience to birthing my own baby yet even more incredible.

Had I known then that a 'doula' was a thing I would have become one right then. Instead, over the last 20 years my life has taken many different and varied paths. I have mothered, I have experienced and trained in sacred womens spaces, and I learned about and used many natural therapies. I then completed a degree in counselling. My counselling work with families and children was integral to my own growth and the growth of my skills in being with people as they lived through difficult feelings and challenged themselves to be the best person they could be.

After my second child was born in 2011 I was again blown away by the power of birth. unfortunately this time I was left traumatised. This was followed by an extraordinarily difficult breastfeeding journey. However, these experiences were not in vain. I processed my own trauma and turned my difficulty into resources as I (finally) became a doula. I used my journeys as a foundation for supporting other women - to help them achieve the best birth for them, or to heal from their own trauma.

I birthed my 3rd and final baby in September 2015. His was a powerful home birth, surrounded by a very special birth team who supported me beautifully. I am now working again, supporting other women in their birth journey, taking new wisdom with me. I have become a Breastfeeding Counsellor too, specialising in supporting new mothers with love and care.

I look forward to meeting you in your sacred space and nourishing you and your family X

Hi, I’m Aurelia and im excited to introduce myself to the Hartfelt community. I am Swiss Born, and now home is in the foothills of Perth, with my husband and my two daughters who are 4 years and 2 years old.

My young life in the Alps offered me many adventures like skiing, biking, and hiking. As a young woman of 16 I moved to the city to train as a photographers apprentice, which I completed but then was left at a crossroads. With no job, apartment or savings, I threw myself into becoming a ski instructor! I travelled far and wide during my instructor days and met my now husband, Jason in Canada on the slopes.

Three winters later in 2006, it was clear that this Swiss girl and that Aussie boy were going to stick at it, so we moved to Perth to start a “real” life.

I fell pregnant and was overjoyed, then later miscarried my baby at 10 weeks. I was devastated. I spent months soul searching and trying to recover mentally and emotionally, and physically regain my cycle. Jason and I took some time to travel and I married my soul mate on a gorgeous beach in Thailand.

In late 2011 I was excited to learn that I was again pregnant with our rainbow baby. This was an easy pregnancy but ended in a C-Section. This was not the experience I had wanted for myself or my baby. However I can now see though, that this is the moment where my passion for all things birth began. I began researching Vaginal Birth After Caeserean (VBAC) knowing the next time this is what I would do.

A year later when I discovered I was blessed with another pregnancy, we knew we wanted an Independent midwife and a home birth, so that is what we created. I was empowered and encouraged by my tribe of women at a Birth Blessing. It was raw and unique. In March 2014 I birthed my second daughter into the world in our beautiful home surrounded and supported by Jason, and some amazing, warm and loving women.

In 2014 I was also invited on to a team of amazing women to create a Positive Birth group in Midland. We meet monthly to talk all things positive birth. We empower and nurture women, and witness women empower each other. This has helped my confidence grow and made me more sure that my journey is to support women, and my passion is specifically around VBAC education and support

Throughout my life I have been lucky enough to be supported and encouraged by wonderful and strong women. The strength I felt running through the circle at my Birth Blessing was so raw and I came away feeling empowered and supported like never before. Since then I have been lucky enough to attend other ceremonies and circles led by Jo and I feel like this is where I belong.

I am very excited to be joining the Hartfelt team and to support women and families on their journeys.

EDIT - Aurelia is currently on maternity leave (February 2017)
